I almost remember Japan, though I've never been there...
Quite impressive work!

Don't think it's Japan. Judging by the first character on the "NO SMOKING" sign, which reads "bù" (No) in pinyin, which is chinese, this place is probably somewhere in China.

One of the guys appears to be holding a cigarette, and I see that there is a no smoking sign. Or I may be blindSweating a little...

Anyways, very thought provoking scene

I love how much details you put into your work.
It reminds me of my life as a teenagers, that ugly uniform I used to wear.
The environment and the interaction among people really hit the spot(It reminds me of the Kowloon area, I don't live in that area so it might be wrong...).
The guy in long coat and hat seems like a pervert though(In HK we don't trust people who dress like that).

I love the psychological aspect. The viewer's POV as the fifth character is great. The picture leaves the context of the interaction completely to the viewer's imagination. Interesting how some commentators imagine they "definitely" know what the story behind the scene is...and how people see everything from an innocent chat or flirting, to a drug deal, to two guys, or creepers, picking up school girls. Some say the picture has a warm and comfortable vibe; others feel it is "creepy" or sinister. Fascinating!

The posture of the girls and their interlocutors tells quite a bit, and the conversation - at least the part we are privy to - seems to be mostly between the taller guy and the girl with her ankles crossed. Tall guy also seems to be the "alpha" of the group: both of the girls and his companion are facing him. The girl in the front is looking at her (more relaxed?) friend and both have their hands in similar positions in front of their bodies. The guys have a bit of a bad-boy vibe..cigarette, hat, trenchcoat.

What do I see in the interaction? Two girls talking, maybe flirting, with two (slightly older?) guys. Schoolmates a grade or two above them? "Cool" friends of older brothers? The light, colour palette, and the stuff I mentioned above, suggests a warm and relaxed vibe with a bit of the nervousness (though tall guy seems quite confident) and sexual tension that comes with male-female interactions. I see a typical after school scene - nothing sinister going on here. Great work!

nb - Just read ~GrecoGecko17's comment and the artist's reply...looks like my analysis was pretty close to how Mr De Ro imagined the scene. :-) Looking forward to exploring more of your work.
